Disney, Salesforce, Tmobile, IBM CEO, and even Bill Gates are stepping down from their roles. I know Gates chose to follow philanthropic endeavors but given so many of them chose to go near the top of the stock market, are there any financial incentives for them to leave or is it all a coincidence?
To sell their stocks before the economy comes down. Otherwise it will be insider trading.
Aren't there blackout periods after resignation?
Exactly!
Now is when real leaders are born. They’ll step up and earn their legacy by solving tough problems. Legacy CEOs have no benefit to sticking around. Even if they’re great and do the best they can, they still lose their legacy in a recession and look like a failure. If you have nothing to lose, now is a great time to step up. Good chance you’ll fail, but huge upside if you don’t. But if your Wikipedia page currently says you grew Disney by x billion dollars, you don’t want the next paragraph to say “then it lost half its value in 2020”. Put that on some other guy. If say, Tim Cook sticks out the recession and leads Apple through a few bad years, I’d say he’s earned a hellu’va lot of respect in my book. Because he definitely won’t get any credit for it.
Because they can encase there money and enjoy during recession
