We are basically interviewing for the most part for the same companies. The companies I am interviewing for never skip a phone screen for me. I have worked at a FAANG, some fintech companies, and early on some lower-tier companies. I have 10 yoe in total with 6-7 at big tech companies. On the other hand he has 3 yoe with couple of good companies on resume. No low tier early on. His school is better, but not top 50. I am just wondering what would make a company skip phone screen for someone. FYI we both have reached onsite at some of those companies, and I have received offers from them while he has not. Just a head scratcher to me and really intrigued. yoe: 10 TC: 0 (was 450k) #tech #interview
tc and yoe it's unfair by design

Block is known to have bad employees so I’m not surprised
Huh? WAIT, Aren't you the one that just made a post about potentially losing your house because you are unemployed and can't find a position? https://www.teamblind.com/post/Laid-Off-And-Going-To-Lose-House-Please-Help-Z6Kazv35 So you want to tell me that if Block offered you a position now you will become bad employee? Lol
Woah there 😂
interviewing for different levels?
Luck
Different hiring managers can have different requirements and be more lax about initial steps.
school is better, thats likely why school is the main factor ive noticed in hr pipelines for this stuff. My sample size is only 3, but those were 3 very prominent companies
That's my guess as well.
HR pipelines value these (in rough order), in my experience: 1. From Meta, Google, Netflix 2. From other top (well known) companies like Uber, AirBnB, Microsoft, etc. 3. School (if still low YOE) 4. every other company Contrary to popular belief on blind I really don't think these super niche companies that Blind claims are "prestegious" or "have good talent" are really all that good on a resume. I think they happen to look good because they are often on a resume that has something from (1), (2) or (3).
Hiring manager interest
6 companies in 8 years? Maybe that's why. Blaming it on school is cope for an experienced hire.
Prob his resume is better
