Why does this happen ? [India]

I feel I have a decent profile swe internships good university good cgpa etc , I am 2021 graduate , Yet I never get reached out by tech recruiters from google , Amazon , Facebook Instead I get reached out for quantitative research / trader roles more

AT&T _mr_robot_ Sep 7, 2021

I was only reached out by Google in my career.

Nobody will reach out to freshers (for most part). I have all of the above and 3 YOE still no recruiters from these company has ever reached out to me personally without applying.

Arcesium hazelcast Sep 7, 2021

Why are you surprised by that? YoE plays a very important role and unfortunately, “0” is not a number that a lot of recruiters look for.

Microsoft dumb AF OP Sep 7, 2021

So how many years of experience is needed before I start getting in mails ? Software emgineers here seem to crib a lot that they get too many in mails

Arcesium hazelcast Sep 7, 2021

2-3 atleast. > 3 is the sweet spot though

Intel Viterbi Sep 7, 2021

You need to apply to stuff as new grad - why would recruiters reach out? They get tons of new grads from college anyway 😂

Google perennial Sep 7, 2021

It's supply and demand, companies have well established pipelines to fill fresher positions. If you're not in their traditional college pools it will be hard to get interviews. Even harder if they fulfil all their fresher requirements from campus. Things change dramatically with 2 YOE when there are no defined supply pools(like Unis, you can argue for equivalent tech companies but it's trickier to source them) and people who are in the supply pools start stagnating in their roles.

Hmm , I have not even interviewed with google once even though I want to , clearing the interview is hard enough why is it so tough to get an interview , and it’s not like I have a bad resume it’s actually reasonably good Only thing lacking is competitive programming which seems to be the differentiating factor

Microsoft keMtG Sep 7, 2021

Don't worry You just have to wait. After 1 yoe, you will start getting some inmails. By 2-3 yoe, you will be flooded :) Meanwhile, try getting referrals.

Arcesium hazelcast Sep 7, 2021

I have 2 yoe but don’t get “flooded” with good companies. Maybe 3 is the charm. Lol

Microsoft dumb AF OP Sep 7, 2021

Eagerly waiting to get flooded with inmails ( even from not so great companies will give a sense of security )

Google razzr Sep 7, 2021

You must be one of those grand master 6 star coders (whatever that means). Quant firms love competitive coders. For FANGMAN you need > 3 yoe. Once you hit that number, recruiters magically start contacting you. Recruiters use a bunch of tools and yoe filter is pretty easy to put. Maybe try hiding all the dates and years from your Linkedin profile. Also maybe do some real Software engineering side projects and put them on GitHub. Tier 1 startups might reach out

Microsoft dumb AF OP Sep 7, 2021

Lol no Comp coding , am from an old IIT though , good cgpa , didn’t even get shortlisted by google Plus it’s mostly google that care more about Comp coding stuff

Google razzr Sep 7, 2021

For Google or any other FANGMAN offcampus recruitment requirs some yoe. Entry level roles are usually filled up by college hires and this isn't the best time. 2021 grads have just joined the company. Jan is when new headcount gets approved.

Flipkart OptimiseTC Sep 7, 2021

How are even HFT companies contacting you? Are you from old IIT?

Microsoft dumb AF OP Sep 7, 2021

Yes
