Is "From the River to the Sea" So Wrong?
Dbx market cap is currently below $9.5b. SFDC could acquire Dbx for $15b (about half what they paid for Slack) and it would be less than what they paid for Tableau too (especially if you adjust for inflation). Why acquire Dropbox? Same reason they acquired Slack. Seems like they're trying to compete with Microsoft in the enterprise space with Slack and Tableau and a file storage solution is arguably one of their biggest missing pieces right now. Or is Dropbox too overvalued for them to buy?
Not sure. Thanks for the question!
Exactly what I thought! Salesforce is the buyer makes most sense
It was weird that they bought Slack and went into productivity... so who knows.
Ex-Dropbox and Iâve wondered this as well. Seems like a good idea. The issue is that Dropbox still canât scale for enterprise and thatâs where SFDC & co. thrive.
What Salesforce does well is sell things, especially to enterprise customers for outrageous amounts of money. That's the main value SFDC brings to acquisitions.
Yes, Salesforce is really good at selling things (not just a clever name). They have the old sales dream team from Oracle over there.
Why should Salesforce acquire? How will they benefit?
B2B2C might be the future of SFDC after Slack acquisition
Why did sfdc buy Slack for nearly 30b? So they can bundle it with their existing products and create an ecosystem.
Doesnât make sense. Dropbox mainly B2C. Box a better fit. But storage is a disappearing biz model anyway.
Where's the upside? How many businesses buy Dropbox when they already have Google Drive, OneDrive etc?
Where's the upside buying Slack for nearly 30b? The point is so they can bundle it with their existing products and create an ecosystem.
Cuz businesses already uses Slack
Salesforce has quip. đ
Youâre going to make Bret unhappy lol
Doesnât make sense to buy a sinking tech. Storage is not a problem that Salesforce is trying to capitalize at all. Iâm having trouble finding a sales pipeline to fit Dropbox into our product lifecycle. The slack acquisition was for market dominance in terms of enterprise collaboration.
yeah an acquisition makes sense to me. wouldnât be surprised if drew doesnât want to sell or still shopping around for the highest bidder
Heâs been shopping around since Steve Jobs offered to buy his feature of a company. Heâs also very high on drugs always, which gets in the way of making a definitive decision.
