Many years ago their recommendation algorithm was state of the art, but now every streaming service has a similar algorithm, and YouTube is def better at it. They tried to do a live stream a few months ago and that failed, where as Hotstar does a live stream for much larger audiences. Whatâs still so good about Netflix?
Youtube recommendations are garbage, I donât know what you mean. I feel like no company has actually nailed the recommendation problem for movies/tv shows but Netflix is definitely at the top.
I agree with you on YT . I feel like YT is following tiktok model of recommendations for vitality and views and it's working in a way. Netflix is definately garbage now, but I guess the reason is not tech but their greed to push the content they want viewers to watch rather than giving a heed to viewers interests
YouTube's algo suffers from constantly suggesting shit I've already watched. It's a bit better now although it used to be super bad before.

Get YouTube premium ffs
because they pay all cash
All cash is bad, salaries donât go up to accommodate for inflation. So youâre going to be losing money in the long run.
wtf are you talking stripe? have you ever worked at Netflix before?
So you think the primary tech at Netflix is our recommendation algorithm, that because ONE of our live events had issues somehow HOTSTAR is worth mentioning and that our salaries averaging well over half a mil is a bad thing? Cool.
What is the primary tech otherwise that makes Netflix unique from any of the other streamers? Hotstar has the largest scale when it comes to streaming live events. Pure cash salaries have limited upside.
âThey tried to do a live stream a few months ago and that failedâ - wtf. That was one live stream event that failed unfortunately, then the following succeeded.
For a company that prides itself on tech, how do you end up with situation where the whole stream failed? That means there was no mitigation plan in place, no rollback strategy, no chaos testing
Shit happens. Show me a company that didnât have fuckups.
