Might sound stupid, but I want to have an idea of what could be the fields that my kids would make good money out of (and not burn themselves out working 16 hours a day, or study 10 years in college before actually getting paid like doctors).
Planning for your kids career? :P
No sure if you're a parent or not,but this actually occupies my mind a lot. I was raised in an extremely poor (financially) family, because my parents don't know how to make money and they didn't care about it. I, as a child and teenager suffered a lot. I'm not saying money is equivalent to happiness but I can definitely say being poor brought lots of sadness to my life. And I don't want my kids to experience that at all. So yes, I often think about how to help them make money (i.e. teach them fishing not just give them fish)
Prepare them for MIT, Harvard or Stanford. The school will take care of the rest.
We can’t even predict what will happen next year let alone 20 years. If you want to help your children, you should teach them how to learn. If you want good money, teach them how to think critically and be more business mindset.
Business mindset is a good tip. Thanks
MAdk my words. Tesla stock would go .....
In 20 years, AI will be writing code / SWEs and we will all be their SDETs / QA.
I’m hoping to be retired or near retirement in 20 years
Even hotter.
Teach your kids to be curious, encourage them to think critically, and support them in their interests. Read to them, treat them like adults, and help them make good choices. Build trust with them so they know they can depend on your wisdom. There’s no way that you can pick their careers for them, or know what will be the right option for them. We can only give our kids the tools they need to succeed in their own endeavors, not choose their path for them.
Wall Street never died
With terrible WLB
Worried about your kid future? Make him or her the instagram star or even better youtube star. Once he/she has couple of thousands of subscriber, is set for life.
Look, there's no way to really know. Traditionally high paying jobs were consulting, working your way up in management, doctor, big law, and IB. The trade is typically a lot of working hours for pretty big TC. Recently, the tech boom opened up a new market for digital advertising which made the industry flush with cash flow. That plus the efficiency of writing software means big TC. The fact that in general the wlb is still pretty good is somewhat an anomaly, but may be due to a cultural shift as most of these companies are pretty modern. As others have suggested, teach them to be curious and keep an eye on the industry and when the time comes give them some ideas of what careers may be lucrative, but let them pick their own path.
