Maybe 4 day work week, maybe 7 hour days, maybe 2 months PTO per year. Whatever the form, I think we would still be almost the same level of productive. But our lives would be so much better. How did we convince everyone to work themselves to death for no reason? Never see your kids or pursue hobbies, just grind most of our lives? Do you agree or have another perspective?
Research shows that total output doesn't decrease with 4 day work week. Workers aren't productive for 40 hours / week. So give the wasted time back rather then spending it at work. Old school thinking is the only reason why it remains the way it is.
It's literally the work hours from 140 years ago from the assembly line with Ford I think. The issue is basic economics/psychology: if we live in a world where everyone is kind of happy and has good wlb, the perceived value of having 100% free time and money is lower. In developed countries like north Europe, there's nowhere near the admiration and envy for rich people life like in USA
Capitalists will never allow this.
Pure capitalism actually would greatly benefit from that. Human psychosis and scarcity mindset is the problem One person feels better (and have more power) if they have 10 and everyone else has -1 rather than having 20 and others having 15
This is why pure capitalism could never exist. Pure capitalism would lead to uncontrollable monopolies and self destruct in no time. In a state capitalist society the capitalist get the government protecting/working for them. Ironically it’s the same government that protects the public just enough from total private tyranny. Unfortunately the State mostly still serves the rich.
If the ruling class does not keep the people productive they will be replaced by another who will: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rStL7niR7gs The world would be great, but those in charge won't be able to line their pockets at the same rate and that is an existential threat to them
