Random Sunday thoughts

I read this tweet from someone famous, it goes like this. If you are 30+ and meet your parents only once a year, you are likely going to see them <15 times in the coming years before they pass away. I spent 30 lakhs (~39k usd) so far on flight tickets till date (in the past 9 years), it's crazy that I spent so much and just hit 30. This might be a small # for many but just counting that made me feel a bit heavy inside. TC: 272

Donโ€™t forget to calculate how much you earned/saved in the past 9 years. That guy moved from west coast to east coast. You moved to US for a better opportunities I guess.

Can you move your parents to where you are? Especially handy when you have kids. I know it's tough to relocate them though, they have a community and family back home.

My parents have a better life in India than in US, they'd never move. They rarely visit me here, I go back frequently and plan on moving back next year (saving for a villa currently)

Yeah, I'd probably do the same. My parents are in the US and I moved to where they are. I miss the bay, but with kids you can't exactly go out all the time anymore.

I remember that video. It was about โ€œlaterโ€ mindset. โ€œIโ€™ll see my parents laterโ€ I remember that video hitting me really deep. Truth is everything in life is quantifiable and there is a limited amount of sunset, Christmas, family get together etc we will have in this life. As I get older, I go to more funerals of friends and family and I try to live everyday to the fullest. Young SWE, tech professionals, do things that makes you happy either thatโ€™s professionally or personally. Smile more, love more and cherish everyday. Love you all Blinders

Someone once told me the first week of pandemic to open my Whatsapp and find all groups I am part of with more than 100 people. Assuming the age was equally distributed, there will be at least one person who will be dead in this group by the next 6 months. It haunted me more than what you are saying.
