do you expect to make more or less at a startup

Obviously an insane amount of variability across startups, but if a 2-3 year old startup is advertising competitive compensation in the Bay, do you believe they would/can really provide that (compared to another major company) company founded by ex google swes, so have to assume they know high TC expectations TC: 160k

Depends on the startup. Is it a 2 year old company led by, say, Travis K.? Shares will be worth something one day, likely. If itโ€™s Joe Blow from town starting his 1st startup, id expect to earn less.

Depends on who they want to hire and which numbers they use. Average pay or median pay in the BA for SWE is like 130k. If they want to hire away from FB or goog then they will pay more if they just want anyone that can code then the pay bar is lower.

I got offers from multiple offers from startups recently, from 2 to 4 year old. Pay (cash) was 200k to 240k for senior position, much more that I expected for startups. Plus good equity
