I followed traditional route like getting a degree finishing Masters in USA and getting a job and dealing with h1b issues. A guy I know doesn’t have a degree and no corporate job, but he is earning more from YouTube than my yearly income from software job I feel am a useless piece of crap to follow traditional route. And every other kid I know have YouTube channel and earning anywhere between 500 to 1000$. They will soon catch up and make more than me. I have worked at TikTok US core tech for 3 years. AMA.
No because to make the same kind of money from YouTube as I make in tech takes just as much if not more work and certainly a whole lot more luck. I do make substantially more than you but there's no reason you couldn't either
I would love to switch over and be a full-time content creator. I figure if I worked hard at it and spent all my free time and energy, then with luck I might be able to make almost enough to live on by the time I retire. Alternately, I can do my 9-5 and enjoy watching people who are better at being Youtubers than I am instead of grinding myself to dust trying to be something I’m not.
Degree , intelligent and making money are mostly orthogonal.
If someone makes more money than you on youtube then he/she isnt average.
What’s stopping you from making a YouTube channel?
I don't put significant self worth in how my income compares to others so no.
Sounds like he's not an average guy
No, because I love what I do
Start a Youtube channel. Baking or whatever.
Here's an example: Haven't you seen some social media channel or a person going viral, get tons of view and then internet moves on to someone else and they get significantly less view now. Only few YouTubers will consistently persist over time is what I have seen. While your skills and degree would still be more desirable in job market in long run.
