I have 16 weeks paid leave coming up (JPMC parental), plus I only work 5h/week so I have a side gig. I started preparing for interviewing as a DE with FAANG+. But I decided to do some interviews now just to see what I can get. Got increase offers at every place that has interviewed me. Some of these opportunities are genuinely interesting, as I'd be offered a senior (almost partner) position at a couple of niche BI/DE consultancy firms. current - 135 base / 5k bonus. 10h/week side gig ~30k/yr best (initial) offer - 180 base / 20k bonus. No time for side gig worst (initial) offer - 160 base / 8k signing / 16k bonus. No time for side gig YoE 10 Pending boning up on my deteriorating-but-once-outstanding SQL skills, I should be able to get an L6/L5 offer. Those appear to have more TC from RSU, but lower base. Niche consulting is okay WLB (35h), I've done it before, it is a lot of fun and you're constantly learning new tech. It's not like the sweat shops that the large consulting firms run. But I've never worked big tech. Don't want to miss out. I'll probably never have so much time on my hands to interview prep. I've got nothing to lose and these companies clearly indicated they want me. Should I push them hard for a high TC? Do you think they can't compete at all with big tech?
Sounds like your current job could still be done if you pick up a new job so why not both or a trial period of two jobs and after a month just keep the one you like more
