I have Bank of America and I hate their customer service. Last year I got double charged for $700 and some rude ass woman did not do a charge back. I tried another time only for them to say I didn’t have enough proof and then I tried again and they said I’m out of the eligible window. So that’s how I lost $700. Now, I’m on vacation in the Caribbean and tried sending money to a new friend through Zelle and they locked my account for fraud since I sent from the Caribbean. I was on the phone for 1 hour with several representatives and they said I must go to a US physical bank to prove my identity to unfreeze my account. While I’m fucking abroad on vacation? And the stupid customer service guy had the nerve to ask me not to curse in anger. I checked his ass right there and then. Thank God I have other credit cards otherwise I’d have been screwed. I have $200k in my checking and I’m willing to move to any other bank but this shitty bank. Any suggestions please? TC : $550k
Get a high yield savings account and put the 200k there
I don’t want a savings account. I want a bank that’s doesn’t have useless customer service. The only reason I have so much in my checking is because I’m building up to invest in real estate.
What sort of stupid question is this? Why do people even need banks? What are direct deposits, rent and credit card payoffs etc? Edit : Some Microsoft clown that deleted his comment asked me why I need a bank at all if I wasn’t saving money.
Personally I like Charles Schwab. BofA sucks. I was a customer there for years and they kept charging me all these random fees. Their customer service is a nightmare too.
I’ve been very happy with Chase bank. Their app has everything I need so I hardly ever need to call and talk to someone.
+1. Been a Chase customer since 2018 and their app is very nice, especially if you have Chase credit cards too. Easy to manage everything in one place. Plenty of Chase ATMs.
and they have a nice Sapphire Checking account option that I use when traveling - atm fees waived and $0 foreign transaction fees “Chase Sapphire℠ Banking is a great option for travelers, because it doesn't charge foreign exchange rate fees or ATM fees worldwide, and it refunds any fees charged by out-of-network ATM providers.”
Credit union for good service
Chase has been good to me
Another vote for Chase. Never have any problems. But their interest rate is ridiculous. Don’t keep too much balance in their accounts.
US bank. No problems when I traveled in Europe and Asia.
They charged my wife a dormant account fee on her savings account because, well, she just saved money there. Plus their app feels ancient and you can only get stuff done with them from like 9-5 CT. Annoying, would not recommend.
Ally bank
Close to default fyi
Oh shieet… coming from GM
Wells Fargo is decent as far as banks go. I've been using them for years and haven't had any issues. DCU (Digital Credit Union) is also quality.
Wells Fargo just sent me a letter saying that they plan to close my savings account due to inactivity, with a convoluted way for me to get my money vs just sending it to me. They have a history of doing shady stuff to their customers, like opening accounts in their name without informing them. https://www.forbes.com/sites/maggiemcgrath/2016/09/08/wells-fargo-fined-185-million-for-opening-accounts-without-customers-knowledge/ https://www.justice.gov/opa/pr/wells-fargo-agrees-pay-3-billion-resolve-criminal-and-civil-investigations-sales-practices I’ve had a credit card with them for 15 years, and have repeatedly requested that they correct the spelling of my name - and they have yet to do it. Wells Fargo sucks.
Yeah WF sucks and remember that scandal opening of fake accounts by their employees for commissions years ago?
Fidelity or any non garbage bank that gives 0% on your checking. Fidelity gives 4.5%+ so you’ve been missing out on interest + getting screwed by BoA service.
Could you give more info on Fidelity and 4.5%?
Their cash management offering (checking) allows you to change the cash holdings to SPAXX or similar which has a rate ~4.5% currently. You can use it as a normal checking account with a debit card.
