Top 20 cities' list, created taking into account different factors that influence cities' attractiveness such as: salaries, cost of living, size and quality of tech job market, opportunities for local employment, opportunities for remote work, leisure opportunities, quality of life, access to nature, safety, healthcare and infrastructure, weather and so on. Of course, everyone has different priorities, and it's difficult to make a link/ranking that will make everyone happy, but if we take into all above factors weighting them in a "reasonable/popular" way, this list should be solid. 1. Zurich 2. London 3. Amsterdam 4. Dublin 5. Berlin 6. Paris 7. Madrid 8. Barcelona 9. Stockholm 10. Oslo 11. Munich 12. Cambridge 13. Warsaw 14. Krakow 15. Tallinn 16. Lisbon 17. Bucharest 18. Prague 19. Belgrade 20. Edinburgh If you are curious about a more in-depth analysis about this selection and ranking, or want to see what are the best companies hiring in these locations you can check the following articles, respectively about the first 3 (https://theeuropeanengineer.substack.com/p/top-3-cities-for-software-engineers), following 7 (https://theeuropeanengineer.substack.com/p/top-10-cities-for-software-engineers), last 10 (https://theeuropeanengineer.substack.com/p/top-20-cities-for-software-engineers) cities. I'm curious to know your opinion on this, in particular on: 1. Do you think I've ranked central/eastern european cities too low? I gave some points to some western european cities for their stability/high-quality-infrastructure/quality-of-life, but I think some people would rather be based as a dev in central/eastern europe than in western europe. 2. Have I missed some city that should make the top 20? Why/which one? Hope you find it useful/interesting! Peace!
Most people praising Zurich on blind have never even been there.
Zurich is good because your TC is gonna be similar to US. Switzerland is probably the only country in Europe where you make anything close to US
Ah, right. Blind picks from priority queue using TC as a comparator
Don't even think of living in Paris if you are not white. Xenophobia and racism are rampant in France
zurich is over priced, and job opportunities are few. If you're not an EU citizen, it is better to avoid in my opinion.
You missed Copenhagen or aarhus
I mention Aarhus in the article because it has a nice Uber office. Otherwise I don’t think if you have a lot of good companies in those two cities
Munich should be same level as London pay wise. I interviewed with Google and was told it's the same pay scale between the two. Not sure about rest of market or companies.
Munich has a much smaller market than London, taxes are a bit higher as well, and I think in terms of lifestyle many people will prefer London
Zurich is trash, London only for 200k+ TC. Germany is trash hol and high taxes not what jt used to be
Gothenburg
Ukraine, Kosovo, Armenia & Bosnia
Bosnia isnt all bad tbh, I have a friend there
Warsaw
