I fresh graduated from college and got my first job in Offerup. It is small enough, so I got chance to witness lots of ongoing. Some of them made me uncomfortable and even crash my conscience. I would like to know whether it is only in OfferUp or it is common issue and I am just naive. 1 One candidate got rejected by all interviewers, but one of high level manager is his friend and insist to give him offer. Then, promote him even his preformace review is not good. 2 One director with no technical sense got hired. The person who hired him offer him a blacklist of the people he hate and request this director to harase these people. It ends up with all the people in this list quit; and 80% eng under this director quit, including 100% senior attrition rate. This director is still not fired. 3 A female eng switched team and had one private talk with HR about her previous manager has discrimination issue. Somehow, that manager know this talk, and he discussed with his manager friends. They started to retaliate and harass this female eng. One of them still has continuous came to her and told her what happened behind scene. 4 When someone quit, we used have a toast together to celebrate his/her new joney; then manager requested people to leave quietly and not send farewell email; after about 70% attrition rate, I saw our HR strated to post on glassdoor and other social media, called everyone quit as "manage-out".
I have seen this in my last 2 companies. Before that, I wasn’t smart enough to realize that could happen.
#1 very common #2 common but usually more covert #3 extremely illegal, should see lawyer and get $$$$ #4 sad
This kinda stuff does not happen within well managed organizations
Lol. When you find one that doesn’t at least do #4 let me know and refer me in. Indeed come to think of it, most places I’ve been have had issues with at least one of the others. As bad as the grammar is, this OP nailed it—what’s wrong with corporate America.
If this is true, then I will feel so lucky that I didn’t get selected by em. :)
This is true. I am not as lucky as you.
# 1 the high level manager quit but his friend still here. # 2 the director still here and hr deal with his management abuse issue left # 3 the female dev, the one manager has conscience and 80% people reported to that manager quit # 4 hr start to write back door review on Glassdoor
It's just OfferUp, I've worked a nearly a dozen places, OfferUp is the worst managed of them all. (I'm obviously a former employee not current.)
