Thank you AAPL and NVDA
I’m currently considering to join Waymo at L6. Already have an offer confirmed (no numbers yet) but my issue is that I need to join in Jan 2022 for family reasons, which is 4 months away. Should I worry about their internal 409a value increases suddenly that halves my grant? What should I do if that happens? TC 590
You can't work remotely before then? I don't know exactly what the refresher timelines are for waymo, but for G, it's much better to start before I think October 15th or something so you get a refresher the next year. I'd you start in Jan you'll miss it, which for L6 is probably ~120k. Note I'd you have a good performance rating you still get it I think in G - one again, don't know about Waymo.
Miss it? Or will it be given in the next cycle?
I can’t. I’m in another country and Waymo is strictly US-only.
You should ask your recruiter if the offer letter is going to state the number of options/RSUs or a $$ value based on which the number is determined after joining. That’ll answer your question. I’m not well versed with the specifics but Waymo’s valuation dropped a huge amount over the last couple of years, right? Just something to keep in mind if you’re afraid of the company’s valuation doubling before your joining date.
It’s the dollar amount.
Then why does it matter? That dollar amount will be converted to fmv number of shares at the time of joining. If valuation goes up you are still getting what’s been promised to you in dollar amount? Meanwhile, you are still vesting the growth of your currently company
Does your offer have number of units? Congrats! Could you share your yoe?
409a is unlikely to be updated before Jan and refreshers are given regardless of joining date. :) Source: myself
When was it last updated? March 2021?
What is the range of refreshers for different levels? Similar to what you had for Google? Also refreshers for meets all ? Or just rockstars?
Do you know their option is cash settled and has forced buyback if you leave?
They only give WMUs now. No options anymore beginning in 2020. Forced buyback is still a huge issue
I’m fine with the forced buy back. Not ideal but it is what it is. Better than vanishing.
