I see a lot of posts on Blind about people getting burnt out, dev listed, pipped at amazon. I left it a while back and spent several years, and it was ok. sure, you have to work hard, but nobody put on pip. I am planning to return, but after seeing all of the above, I am afraid to return. Is it that bad? I know Blind is biased, but I do not expect that much.
When did you leave amazon?
Where are you now? How's your current company?
I think people tend to highlight a lot of the bad, this is true even with glassdoor. I have a friend who works there and they love it, they do say they work very hard and from 8-6 but they are young and enjoy what they are getting out of it
Where are you now? Depends on where are you now
In relatively small-mid size startup. Don’t want to name it. I don’t think I enjoy it. Though wlb is better than aws where I was.
How's TC at the startup?
Blind contains a minuscule sample size compared to the entire company.
Amazon is indeed good with few exceptions. With previous experience of how to do well at this company, I think you'll be set for success.
Amazon is great learning and skill development wise but one thing I don't like is how much power your manager has over your career at Amazon. It can be really really frustrating to see some incapable manager having more power in their hands than they deserve. Other than that Frugality sucks. You'll miss those free snacks in the kitchen.
All teams I have been at had snacks. So nothing to miss there. My prev managers were good with team lunches, etc.
Don't know. But morally it sounds very strange how Amazon is growing as monopoly in all dimensions. And if you're not a prime subscriber there is a huge drop in quality of service.
Yeah Alexa is just another dumb machine without Prime
Blind is biased but a lot of people have bad experiences at amazon. Ask people you know that work there.
I still have many friends there, all of them have good experience. Sure, some of them experienced cases of being thrown under the bus, but they managed to escape such teams. However, I talked to people who left it, and all tell me about their pip story. :(
Seems like you know how it is, just need to confirm if it's worth it? The up front cash bonus + severance there is very nice so it may be worth it.
