OP and others interested in JPMC should realize that there is no system of referring someone for a specific opening. There is a generalized referral concept that sort of says that the referrer knows the referred and knows them. That's all. It doesn't do any favors for the candidate, and no one picks the reference up just because it was made by an employee. In some cases, it could be construed as a play for favors and could potentially go against the candidate, especially if the referrer is an MD. JPMC is a financial services company and has to comply with multiple anti-corruption laws and mandates. Anything that has a semblance of corruption, favors, undue influence will be frowned upon, even if it's not. If you do know that the potential referrer knows the hiring manager or can influence, you can ask them to do exactly that. But beware, it's discouraged, and the referrer has to go out on a limb to support your case. It's worth a shot in that case. But otherwise, you are better off just applying on your own.
I think a referral helps the candidate a little.. Obviously the most important thing is how the candidate would do on the interviews..
Why?
