TN visa is the easiest route, H1B season is April. Start applying, many tech companies will sponsor you happily. Good luck!

TN. An L1 means you have to be hired at a Canadian sub and then transferred, which takes longer. But an L1 is an easy upgrade to a GC. I went the L1 route.

With an L1 you have to work at a subsidiary outside the US for at least 1 year before transferring to the US. TN may work but has limitations for GC (most companies have people who know how to work around it) b/c it's not dual intent. Start applying, many companies will move forward with Canadian residents b/c TN is so easy to get, esp. in major ports.

I know about TNs. An L1 would have been so much better. Oh well. H1Bs are all gone in may. Soooo. Yeah I'll just start applying

On a TN visa you cannot work for more than one company. It's a visa that's given if you promise not to stay "permanently" in the US. So basically, you cannot get a social security number = can't buy a house with the minimum down payment possible, cannot get a cell phone BYOD only, no credit card, can't get a car lease, can't start a company and so on. Basically it's just a pain. But it really does take minutes to get (took me 45 minutes as the Custom officer did not understand my job... Been doing that for 8 years and Mom and Girlfriend still have no idea of what I do lol)

I was lucky. MSFT paid for everything including my L1-A to Green Card. (Thank you BillG!)
