Preface: Hearing the stories on here about what women are facing has been eye opening. Fuck those guys. This definitely needs to be addressed. However, this raises a concern. I feel that sexual allegations are an unchecked nuclear force. If anyone gets accused of sexual allegations, true or false, they are absolutely fucked. To play devil’s advocate, what if this nuclear weapon is used maliciously? IMO, there needs to be a check to this. This is me spitballing ideas, but what if companies did polygraph testing as part of the sexual assault investigations? If either party, the victim OR the defendant, decline to polygraph following an accusation then that action decides the case. If the victim refuses, the claim is thrown out. If the defendant refuses, he is guilty. There needs to be a more evidence driven process here. Whatever that may be. Definitely support #MeToo though. Keep at it.
It has to be video/audio/screenshot recordings. Polygraph isn't an actual like detector.
Personally see a lot of issues with this. Depending on the scenario, it can be be emotional wrecking for someone to have to recount the abuse subject to multiple, specific questions to a stranger that the company chooses. Emotions, such as anxiety or depression, can have an effect on how you perform during a polygraph. On top of that, the interpretation of Polygraphs can be highly subjective. What happens if someone employs methods to cheat the polygraph? What happens if the evidence so to speak is inconclusive? I think there are too many what ifs with trying to employ this as “evidence”
Fair points. Checks are definitely needed for this sort of thing though. No one deserves to be fired for an allegation without a drop of proof.
Polygraph is not a lie detector, and it doesn’t hold as proof of anything. While sympathizing with all the victims of abuse, I agree every person should be considered innocent until proven guilty, and trials need to happen in courts not on social media. (Remember Dominique Strauss-Khan? And that was before #MeToo)
Yeah but DSK is the big leagues. He was caught after many many times.
He was found innocent after a trial.
That’s all nice in theory but what proof do you suggest to use? Part of why this type of harassment is so widespread is that proof is virtually non-existent. 🍆
That's the sad truth. What can be done to avoid "guilty until proven innocent" though?
If you treat people well, it'll be difficult for them to falsely accuse you. Having 1 false accusation won't cause you harm especially if there are other women whom you treated well and can speak for your character.
Sorry but that's bull. With the poundsign-me-too thing going, it's now mandatory to ruin the career and life of any male accused. 1 false allegation is all it takes. Ask the lacrosse team from Duke. And that was years back, before the hashtag-end-his-life "movement".
How come there are still so many people not accused? The danger of false accusation is that once everyone has been accused, the movement loses its meaning. People behind the movement won't allow false accusation to become rampant.
I’m one who shared my stories. I, too, don’t like how it’s become a witch hunt in some instances (Aziz Ansari) and I hate the idea of someone being falsely accused by someone with an agenda. I also hate how many of us haven’t been believed or our complaints dismissed for decades. On my post here someone commented that they didn’t believe what I wrote. 🙄 I don’t know what the answer is. I’m with you though, fuck these guys and let’s find some way to protect the good guys and punish the creeps.
I think here we need something different than trying to do a better trial, as this is difficult to prove, for both sides. We should instead make very clear the protocol of communication between men and women, and how to act in case of deviation. This way, you prevent the incident, instead of investigating it. We have seen already how hard these trials are, and how biased they can be. We need protocols, otherwise we’ll never be able to control the problem and we’ll spend our time just trying to repair an irreversible damage.
Polygraphs are notoriously inaccurate and inadmissible in court in many states because of this. I probably would not go that route.
It’s just like anything not just me too. And fuck no. That’s a slippery slope.
LOL ^^ 😂😂
