Cost Control: Laying off American Engineers with Eastern Engineers.
Are companies laying off high paid American engineers and rehiring for the same position in India and Malaysia? I have been noticing this trend in start ups, and now in big Tech. The only roles available in the West tend to be very few leadership roles, but the vast engineering roles go to those in the East who cost 50%-75% less.
They’ll pay for it in quality and rework. Enshittification continues.
The truth is lot of software work doesn’t require cutting edge skills. So no need to pay 300k to someone in US when you can get a 90% quality job done in 70k.
Keep coping lol Americans said the same thing about China In 2000 China’s economy was 10% of the US. Now it’s 80% and China exceeded the US on GDP PPP. It also has much better infrastructure than the US. Just compare NYC subway and crime rate v/s Shanghai, NYC looks like a poor war torn country in comparison. Now America is on path to have 50% obesity and 90% obesity + overweight rate. Hey atleast they will always be number 1 when it comes to fat people LOL
The trend is growing further. Soon we HS citizens would be applying for those countries visa/h1b
