How is the work culture ? And any layoff concerns?
How is the workculture?
Bad
Overall it’s not bad, ofcourse every Company has done bad teams/managers. Perception/AI/ML are amazing, some of the most talented people you can find here
For anyone interested, read the blind reviews and understand the negative ones are most accurate. I chose to ignore them for the TC. This was a mistake. Also note Cruise only has funding through Q2 or Q3 of 2024. They will probably get funded but it's unknown right now. Fully reliant on GM and what they think is best for their shareholders. Also see latest issues causing Cruise to reduce fleet size. The company is moving backwards making it even more toxic. I would say it's a bad time to join, but that's just my opinion
Many things I see here remind me of Argo related discussions a bit more than a year ago.
You know what happened next...
For everyone who is interested, please also read these tips about how to be successful at Cruise: Overpromise and underdeliver Solve the previous siren in a hacky way that will resolve the replayed event but will do nothing to improve future drives Create unnecessary meetings, Slack threads and design documents to gain "visibility" Never write any code. Instead, write vague documents to show you are "setting a long term roadmap". Invite people to a Strategy Review. Talk about ML as if it is magic. Until you arrived, everyone was stupid and used heuristics. If they had been smart like you, they would have realized that all you need to do is label some data and train a ML model. Use the word "distribution" a lot even if you don't know what that means Use big words like "adversarial deep reinforcement learning" or "spatiotemporal multi-head self-attention". Managers won't have a clue what that is, so they will think you are smart. Suck up to those at higher levels than you Throw under the bus those at lower levels than you Steal credit when other people succeed Blame others when you fail Fill your calendar to the brim with "focus time", "do not schedule" and generic "busy" events so that it is impossible to schedule anything with you Pretend to be too busy to help anyone unless it serves your interests. If someone needs your help, he can schedule a meeting with you on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving between 2:45 and quarter to three Use a fire emoji for your Slack status so people think you are fighting fires Tag people on Slack after midnight or on weekends so everyone knows you are working overtime Reserve meeting rooms so you can sit in them alone and connect to virtual meetings Mention your previous company often if it is a company that has a good reputation (e.g., "At Waymo we did it this way") Give people generous Bonuslys - maybe that will convince them to stop ignoring you on Slack Refer to trivial things as "Engineering Excellence" One more thing… kiss some ass
While this if all accurate, The fire emoji and the "at waymo" is perfection. 😂
Looks like you’re really struggling in that team 🤣 why don’t you change teams/company ? I haven’t had any such experience in my current team so can we not generalize it just bcoz few teams are sh*tty ? I feel your pain and those rants but it’s not the correct representation of the whole company
Hey, can I DM for a Data Scientist role?
Sure, send me your resume and job ID
I used to be a consultant at big 4 working 80 hours a week and traveling...I don't think anything will ever be worse than that. If the work is interesting, I would be more than happy to work hard to deliver. OP, I will message you. Thank you.
Looking at how miserable you’re currently, feel bad for you. When are you planning to leave and end your misery ?
Like everyone else is saying, don't trust magic leap. They're not HM, they just want referral bonuses. (Their referral link posted on blind is a unique identifier to their cruise profile)
People are looking for jobs in this market and we are trying to help. Please keep your negative propaganda to yourself. Try to focus on making your life better by getting a new job.
Don't choke on the corpo Kool aid @MagicLeap
What’s up with the terrible reviews recently?
No company/team is perfect. Overall culture and technology is amazing
Culture is very bad. Used to be worth it due to TC. Magic Leap is probably the HM. Run from anyone who thinks cruise culture is “amazing”
