Spent some days in Delhi aerocity last month. Ended up having to go to the world mark mall which is default place to go if you are in the area. It's like all fancy eateries, food courts and nothing else. Even virat kohli one8 commune is in there. My observations - place is heavily infested with flies and mosquitoes. It is so bad that they have a guy with an electric racket to kill the flies. I wonder what would be state behind the counters in kitchen. I have video proof of this - this small area is heavily controlled and cut off from rest of craziness. Traffic does not enter unless absolutely staying. Commercial vehicles pay penalty if they stay longer than 8 minutes. - the expensive the hotel the more labor they have. Breakfast buffet ended up being a crazy show where every 2 minutes someone comes to you asking sir do you want anything. The more budget hotel ended up being better in this regard since they had less labor - every hotel and the mall has uneducated dumb security guards. They just will fold hands, say "namaste sir" then run metal detectors on you. Even if you just exited and going back in the hotel in front of their eyes. The fuk are they checking anything. They will ask every car to open boot and trunk. Do a drama of checking something and let you go. - whole area has a weird sour smell. This was a marshland before igi airport was built. So maybe underneath there are issues It's just a pathetic example of how a country where some people have money and many dont ends up being. You have a lot of people ready to please you for couple of bucks. But the quality you get and the peace is missing. Because in the end resources are scarce and there is an overpopulation. I know services in us hotels isn't great but the basic cleanliness and quality of most Hilton I have stayed is superb. A lot of stuff is automated. And you dont really need to interact with so many people. I was paying similar prices in india i.e. 150 dollar a night and other than a lot of people who were picking my bags and opening my car door when I leave, there wasn't anything i could enjoy. Not meant to hate. Some "nationalists" might get triggered. It's just an observation. I used to love delhi and india. Now I cant believe I lived there. I wish I never would have left india. Ignorance is a bliss. It would be damn hard to go back now.
This post is pretty condescending towards the “have nots” or “have little”. We are all connected. But yeah I get the going back is difficult. After x amount of years a new place becomes your home and you become estranged towards your homeland.
Maybe. Suburbs of usa especially some particular states offer some crazy good life I feel.
Just your opinion.. you see what you want to see.
Ack
This. OP sounds like he had already made up his mind he is not going to like anything. To each his own. Happiness is a conscious choice.
I can see many useful observations in your post. Fortunately or unfortunately, I had a completely different experience during my recent India trip (to Delhi only). I stayed in Gurgaon. There are great cafes to explore, open malls like 32nd avenue. Maybe it was the timing, but weather was nice and pollution was under control relatively. I have had horrible experiences in the past, so maybe my base was different but I loved Delhi and Gurgaon this time. Another thing about Indian lifestyle is - CONVENIENCE (in daily routine). It was very easy to get fresh meals all three times, shopping deliveries have become almost instant. Digital payment system was extraordinary. All these were positive changes I observed compared to my trip 4 years ago. But again, we were in different part of the city and had different plans. So, I would not generalize either way.
To be honest I chose a time when weather was mild and air smog would be gone. Also I was hoping the cold cough season would have ended too. Maybe gurgaon is better. Will try next time. What month did you go.
I went end of March - April 1st week.
Don’t bother going next time, bet you can’t do that either 😀
Yeah unfortunately I cant miss going to india. Aerocity maybe I will skip
I exactly observed the same thing except in bangalore. Since there are so many uneducated people who are jobless(for obvious reasons) they are hired just for very unnecessary jobs like redundant security guards, redundant waiters etc. I totally get what you are saying.
I mean there are plenty if unnecessary jobs but that helps society vs the opposite
That's my point. There is high level of underemployment in india. And I understand it might be helping society in short term. But in long term its gonna hurt
Agreed 100%, v similar to my experience as well. I can't believe how much overpopulation has blown things out of proportion here (not to say US doesn't have faults either, but definitely more preferable for the reasons you outlined above).
Well at least, no one is expecting a tip from you. They are just their to help you out. Aerocity is mostly airport traffic so it may have it's own spike in traffic.
Who said they are not expecting a tip from you. The only thing people expect is money over there
The gap between the haves and have nots is widening day by day.
