Been at my current company for almost two years or so and making the above comp. Comp is liquid, WLB is 30-35h/w, non VHCOL, full remote, NW $750K-ish. Is it worth job searching? I got offers from mid-top tier quant firms (e.g. Optiver, Two Sigma, CitSec) but they did not get close to my current comp accounting for CoL and WLB. Would Meta, Airbnb, Netflix, JS, HRT, Radix, Snowflake be a potentially better deal? Am considering testing the waters again but with the tech recession am thinking I'm maxed out until 6-7 YOE. What does Blind think? Also feels risky to leave since comparable TC jobs are potentially high stress and I know my shit currently. On the other hand upper six figs for 50h/w seems worth it. I heard of 1MM+ offers at JS and HRT back in the day but don't know if that's still a thing.
which company are you at now? how was the transition from amzn to here?
Name the company OP.
No I don't think anything would beat the combo you have right now. 1m+ SWE offers at JS or HRT also seem pretty tough to get if you aren't offering anything especially unique. For 4 yoe a decent trading firm should roughly hover around 400-600 recurring TC, and even if they beat your current numbers, not many (likely 0) can beat the WLB and remote status that you have. For FAANG/similar, at 4 yoe i doubt most places would even level you at senior/staff, which is around where you would be beating your current TC. Those are usually like 6+ yoe. The market for SWE TC : WLB is pretty efficiently priced across various companies so if you are in a favorable position its likely to be one of the few ones out there.
Thank you for the insights. Kind of stressful that getting PIPed / laid off would mean it's impossible to get something equivalent, but also grateful to be here in the first place
Just stay until your TC becomes average/low for your YOE/level. I don't see any reason to move unless you are interested in a particular area or team at some other company.
Hell no. Even with 10+ yoe you would be hard pressed to do better than 550 remote
Wouldn't this be reasonably beatable at 10 YOE? Staff/Sr Staff at Airbnb, Facebook, Netflix, Snowflake, Google, Roblox? I guess the full remote part is quite rare but at higher levels aren't they more flexible?
Staff or Sr Staff is very hard to come by these days, seeing a lot of people down leveled. Salaries are also lower than they were a year or two ago - so you may be paid less than those who got into those roles in previous years
I smell a PIP in your future
Good performance review last cycle (HV2) but could always change. Hours are decent but definitely feel the pressure to deliver
Honestly thinking about it more, even if I got PIPed, at this $/hr ratio I am grateful to have worked this job even if it's only for 1.5 years. Not to mention severance would be nice
4yoe 550k remote good wlb, please share how you get there to help us poor peanut baggers
Get trading firms offers then negotiate with tech firms outside of FAANG
Why not share the company? Is it a small startup?
lol
