Just got laid off after takeover...What should I do now?

Recently Thoma Bravo set its sights on Stamps.com/Auctane and took them back private. No longer public (not sure it matters).. several months ago they assured us we were all good (but I should have known better, this is a private equity firm with a track record of cutting people after investing. I was just laid off along with a large majority of friends and coworkers. This is the only development job I've held with no other industry experience, nor any college degrees - just a development cert and a company hosted hackathon win under my belt. I've no clue what the best course of action is at this point. Any advice from you all here? I'm getting a decent severance (3 months pay) and I can apply for unemployment, but I have my first baby due in 6 months and would like a plan (I wanna make my son proud!) Some background: I worked at Stamps.com for almost 7 years. I started in customer care and taught myself development between phone calls and on my 3 hr daily train rides (I lived far from the office but I was determined). After a year I was promoted to Associate Front End Web Developer. I loved the work I did, but I also loved all other aspects of the development process. 1 year as associate and then I was promoted to intermediate. After 3 years of voluntarily taking on DB work and Server-side work last year I was promoted to a Full-Stack Web Developer , to have a title befitting the work I was doing. After being in that position for a year things were looking positive for me and it was very likely I would be promoted to Senior this next review period, however the takeover happened 6 months ago and here we are today. My manager said he'd write me a review and do what he could to help. And so did all of my peers. So that's a plus, it was heartwarming to have them reach out. TC: 95k YOE: 6.5

Sorry for impending massive raise Imagine having 6.5 YoE of experience and then being let loose on this job market with the expectation the $95K is a good TC? That's like Bill Gates going to the dollar store and hoping he can find something he can afford.

My condolences. My only advice is to apply to as many companies as you can. Prepare using the usual tools. Leetcode etc

Truly I think in a year you will look back at this and be glad it happened. You can get much better TC in this market, many companies allow you to take paternity leave immediately and will be happy to have you.

You can easily make about 150-200k minimum with your experience and drive to learn. If you apply literally anywhere else, you will see just how much you’re getting underpaid here, and how much other companies value our experience.
