Are we all being gaslit into believing that the layoff environment is due to preparing for a downturn in "economic conditions"? CEOs would never say to the public "yes, we are replacing you with AI". 1) Nearly every sector besides tech is flourishing with opportunities. 2) Tech companies are actually reporting great financial results and stock prices. 2) Every major tech just went all-in on GenAI/LLM. 3) Job openings are shifting to offshore. 4) Layoffs disproportionately affected higher earners, versus H1B and juniors. 5) Anecdotal, but it seems everyone is being forced to produce/output more in tech, resulting in burnout and voluntary quit, and then any backfilling is opened offshore or with lower pay.
What is gaslit?
Past of “to gaslight”.
Gaslighting is basically trying to convince people of things that obviously happened/are happening are different than what I appear. It would be like you actually watching me steal money from your wallet, and then me swearing up and down telling you that you’re nuts and I wasn’t even in the room with you.
It’s crazy how easy it is getting a job outside of tech right now.
Okay your mean 20-30$ hour job
$50-60/hr in non-coastal cities.
India already matches big tech salaries in Europe UK
And it was easier to get tech jobs during Covid. What’s your point? The correction is still happening and will level off in a few years.
After which a much larger percentage of US tech company jobs will have moved out of the US.
All conjecture.
Short term pains. Yeah layoffs will make stock look good. Until they reach a state where there is no innovation and then they will need is again
I don't think a lack of innovation will be the cause, in my opinion it will more likely be burn out from under staffed teams and all the laying off and cutting not being sustainable (and no, A.I. will not fill in the gaps).
I wish company did something for burnout but nobody cares about burnout, they can keep replacing us with oversupply. It's only when other companies innovate will create growth and hiring need and will be hungry for more talent and pay higher. Like how meta did in 2010. They can flip the tech hiring
Eventually USA pay should fall enough to make it worth hiring USA again.
its because of biden's interference. he is pushing the DEI/women in tech shit HARD and companies don't want to hire that many DEI people. Most of that is just a drain on profits. to avoid his bs they are hiring oversea's. Once it's there and embedded it's staying there. if trump wins i bet a hiring spree in USA will happen

Do people underestimate E6 role at meta?
yes they’re doing fine and still laying us off. my guess is investors believe layoffs will continue spike increases so they’ll keep advising for it. great example of cheesing the metrics no matter what the cost
