I’m in the pre-VIP approval stage of comp negotiation for a L5 hybrid NYC DS role at Google. I’m current L5. This is the third round of negotiations Ive done with the recruiter and there might be some room to push on the RSUs. Would love some feedback on the offer and advise on whether there is much more room to push on the compensation numbers and any sense for whether this could blow up at the VP approval stage. My current RSUs is so low b/c Stitch Fix stock went into a free fall after our CEO tried to hype Wall Street with lies (and gaslight the DS team). She’s fired. My target RSU is $165k per year but I don’t expect to be seeing that anytime soon. I also advanced to the third round of a Netflix interview but they closed hiring for L5. The recruiter told me she’ll reach out when hiring picks up again. I’m starting the interview process for Roblox and AirBnB. YoE: 11 #datascience #datascientist #datascientistsalary

Bay Area?
Wow, did not know they are making offers for DS role - looks good enough for L5, if you get bonus RSU even better!
You mentioned this is the third round of negotiation. What did you use as leverage for them to get them to increase?
I insisted that Google match or exceed my Stitch Fix target pay ($415k b/f stock free fall). It was like pulling teeth, didn’t entirely work yet, but it did help me add almost $40k to my initial offer. I also refused to act impressed by any comp packages they offered, refused to give any immediate feedback on comp packages, but consistently affirmed by excitement for the role (i.e. played hard ball). I also tried my best to show the manager and senior manager my excitement about the role.
Thanks. I may send you a DM to compare strategies. I'm at a similar point, but have only received an initial verbal offer from them and not counters yet.
It is impressive that you’re a Data Scientist but are displaying this information in a format that is impossible to decipher.
What's the issue?
Pretty easy to decipher. Says more about the reader.
370 is good. Possible to get 390-400 but sounds like you are already waiting for approval for final numbers
Thank you for the insight. I haven’t told the recruiter to submit for VP approval. I wanted to get some final feedback. Maybe I’ll push for another $20-30k in RSU, I think I’ve maxed the base. I saw some people in levels.fyi with RSUs in the $135-145k (4 yr avg) range but with bases lower (see pic) but after Netflix closed hiring, a lost my most promising counteroffer. So I’ve just been insisting to the recruiter that I exceed my Stitch Fix target pay ($415k before stock free fall)
Is this a product analytics DS or a DS (core) offer
DS core. So this is an optimization and causal inference role. Although I did see a PA offer on levels.fyi that was higher than mine
OP are you a phd? I'm trying to figure out how to get a causal inf role
Hey! Sorry can’t be of any help here but just wanted to ask if you have a PhD?
Only BA but I set aside 3-4 hours a week for reading stats, ML, and programming textbooks. I’ve been doing that on and off for the last ten years.
OP can you recommend books that you find most helpful?
So you guys are the one who use "quantum mechanics" at work? ;) https://www.teamblind.com/post/Google-L5-DS-Offer-Feedback-meroBzge
That went over my head, is there a Stitch Fix or Google DS meme that I don’t know about?
Did your Netflix recruiter mention the rec was closed or all L5 hiring is closed? Thanks and congrats on getting out
I think it was largely remote roles
Take it, GOOG will go up
Tech stocks will get destroyed even more. Starting soon. You heard it here first
