Anyone else have a bloated belly until a huge fart deflates the belly back to normal?
for those who are using M1 mac now, what limitations have you noticed in terms of engineering work you do? I deal with lot of Networking, Virtualization and containers stuff here at Red Hat and I’m wondering moving from Linux to M1 Mac how would I be affected? Or should I get intel model ? And why? #Tech #VMware #amazonaws #oracle #microsoft #Kubernetes
Some of my code wouldn't compile on M1 and needed some config setting changes
Interesting. What code is it? Even Rosetta doesn’t work?
This was react native
Wait for the next mac.
Why is this? Is there a big change expected with the refresh?
Oh man, I wish I could use any *Nix instead of being pushed to use a Mac. The worst part of it I could have chosen an Intel when ordering mine but did not even know about what an M1 was.
Why do you say so? Could you elaborate please it will help other readers as well
I am a Linux user, and I don't like Mac UX. I am pleasantly surprised with homebrew and preview but everything else still sucks, again for me I am not saying the tech itself sucks. For M1, my main problem is that parts of the code base use versions that are not compatible and will never be compatible with M1 and I don't want to have to think or even worse maintain two sets of libraries, apps etc. In my opinion, if you are an enthusiast, like I was back in 2010, recompiling my kernel every 6 months, sure go for M1. If you want something that just works, than go for Intel. My complaint is that I should have gone with Intel, but I didn't even know that the default was not Intel.
Make it as poll.
IntelliJ doesn’t work well in M1 chip
Man that's one of the elite IDEs for java Gods 🤦♂️
Really, one more point against M1. I was temporarily using VScode because everyone and their uncle at the company use it, but planning to move to Pycharm
I had to remove IntelliJ on my Mac M1 , set up VSCode as my Java IDE, it works well
I call bullshit on this. No issues here. Vscode is crap however, regardless of the operating system…
Neither. Wait for M2 💩
What about Microsoft SQ3
Using M1 pro. No issues so far. Virtualization and docker works fine.
If you use docker, M1 arch builds are not available still got many containers. You can run x86 builds but I found them to be really slow. If you use python, the same is the case with many libraries, prebuilt binaries are not available. But the ecosystem is improving rapidly. I got a M1 Mac mini to test the waters. Performance wise i am very happy, if you need immediate work dependency, Intel arch is still the best choice
