I left a SWE job for a non-technical one and haven't written code in more than a year. I work less than ten hours per week and spend the rest of the time slack-jawed, reading posts on reddit that make me hate myself, the author, and reddit itself. It's been more than a year since I've accomplished anything at work. No one seems to have noticed. I don't want to try to find a new job as a SWE. I stopped writing code for a reason, and I also genuinely don't think I can write good code anymore. I don't want to wake up in ten years and realize I've accomplished nothing in my professional life. How do I snap out of this? Where do I go from here? I have strong people skills and do well with technical concepts. TC $220
Change company
You have achieved success my friend. Now enjoy it.
PM or sales.
Azure sales is probably a good idea. Not sure what the sales ecosystem is like while everyone's remote. I suppose I should send some probes out internally and see if any sales teams are hiring. I heard it's hard to change teams internally right now since I'm not a D&I candidate.
I feel the same!!! I sell azure and therefore I think your issue is about your team not your role.
Iβd start applying to other companies. Especially with SWE knowledge you should stand out as a PM candidate.
What's your role? I will be content with $220k TC for 10 hours work per week. I need more time to trade options.
lots of problems in this world, find one and chase after it until you drop dead
i like this approach, might be a good way to find a "purpose"
You might enjoy presales
Try volunteering or go into training.
I volunteer outside of work and have hobbies and relationships, I want to find a way to make work itself more fulfilling
And that's your problem. "Work itself" depends on your point of view. Your art, advocacy group or charity volunteering is the real work, it's just a matter of perspective. Just stop tying your self identity with this job.
presales? both technical and people skills
That's a good idea. Something I'll look into ASAP. Do you have any advice/other information about it?
not much.. except i know one of my friend who was a technical guy does it back in india.. but maybe you should start networking within MS..
