Posting for a friend. He received an offer from company A two weeks ago. Since then has been negotiating back and forth. He still has final stage interviews with three other companies that he would like to pursue. Company A initially low balled him, then he told them about opportunities with companies B C D and suggested a new figure. Recruiter got back saying they could possibly do it *if he agrees to sign right away*, and demands an answer ASAP. He doesnāt want to commit but also doesnāt want to lose this opportunity. Heās worried since itās been two weeks, they might rescind the offer and move on with other candidates if heās still being vague. How to buy more time without losing this opportunity? Please help. How should we help?
How to buy more time without losing this opportunity? Thank you.
He can sign and then reject. Not an issue.
Well, it is fair game. Asked for better offer - got it. Now time to decide :)
Not really. The recruiter was like āif you agree to sign Iāll *probably* get you this numberā. So should he just agree for now? What about the other opportunities?
A probably won't cut it. He's gotta get it in writing. Recruiter doesn't want to start a bidding war, hence the ultimatum.

Recruiter is desperate for reference fees and does not care about you. Ignore the recruiter and keep playing the game. If he can then cut the recruiter off as he's obviously not representing him as he'd like.
This is an internal recruiter. Is it still the same case?
Depends on the company. For bigger ones no, but they wouldn't be recruiters they would either be hiring managers or hr
Say you want background check to complete before you will sign. You can control how long background check takes.
"I'm so glad to hear you're able to offer that much! I'm really excited about company A, and would hate for them to be out of the running because of a low offer. I'm still finishing up the process with a few other places, and then I will check back with you when I'm coming to a decision." Alternatively, it's useful to know what sort of compensation you would accept outright and let them know what they need to hit if they really need an answer "ASAP."
