New York city safety

Planning to visit new york city for the first time. In which area should we stay? I saw there are multiple hotels in garment district. Is that area safe to stay?

All of Manhattan below 110th street is safe IMO. Even above it is mostly safe, but you just have to have your wits about you in certain areas. Garment district is definitely safe (just cheap because it’s a tourist area full of tons of chains and tourist stuff)

Yes that is in midtown and the middle of manhattan where most tourists are, times square is nearby. Anywhere below mid town is ok as well. Around central park is ok too, upper east/west side but north of central park near Harlem isn’t really “tourist” area… Nyc is fine for the most part, but its the city, theres all sorts of people including the crazies. Just keep to yourself and be prepared to avoid any sketchy situations or crazies

Harlem or the Bronx

Manhattan is your best bet. I stayed near Times Square during my 4 day trip to NYC during the wildfire smoke that overtook the city, and I loved it! Close to Central Park and the Marina too. I’ve heard bad things about Brooklyn, but Queens is also pretty good. I would avoid the Bronx and other areas unless you really want to stay there. Good luck! You’ve heard bad things about Brooklyn? You heard wrong lol

People are so overly scared of NYC lol. Walking around midtown at night feels 100% safer than walking around most other major US cities at night.
