Fired without warning, no severance. Top performer.
I interviewed there for an SWE intern role. Got an email saying they are extending an offer. A few weeks later they say that they "hired aggressively" and "have paused all hiring" and are no longer proceeding with an offer?! This shit is sad and is honestly depressing. I worked really hard for this and I really wanted to get go to SF. What are my options other than just waiting? I currently have a competing offer from Amazon Robotics Intern (Boston) Also WLB at Nvidia vs Amazon Robotics as a FTE. Which is better? Edit: update! They gave back the offer. Should I join lol? #nvidia
Sorry that happened to you, but I’d say take the Amazon offer. If Nvidia comes back later and extend the offer again, you can always decline Amazon. Don’t feel guilty. You’re not burning bridges. It’s all business.
Hey got my offer back again lol! What should I pick now? the title for nvidia is 'embedded engineering intern' vs sde intern at amazon. I'll be doing identical work at both companies. i only care about full time conversions and full time wlb
This is normal. Life isn't fair, never stop looking get multiple offers.
Came here to say this. If you really wanted the role, why the delay in signing the offer letter?
Take the Amazon offer. Internships are about getting "real life" experience and Amazon will provide that. NVIDIA is dealing with its ARM purchase, which may not happen, and is likely having some internal turmoil because of it.
Did you actually sign the offer or was it all verbal?
Verbal
OK, yea, this is not an offer yet. I thought you signed. If you signed, and at least for full-timer, you are protected under that WARN act thingy.
Why worry about wlb as an intern? Worry about % getting return offer
Oh yeah I meant wlb for full time. My bad
That’s why you should never have remorse renegating an offer after accepting.
A great life lesson for others, CapOne; well done. Tech can be a small world and it never pays to burn bridges, no matter how good it feels at the time.
If you signed an offer letter, they effectively laid you off without cause. You would of had a case for 60 days of compensation under the WARN act (US). I would speak to an employment law attorney.
This happened to me after junior year of college. The recruiter extended me an offer only to email me later on saying that the team wanted another interview after “further discussions”. That experience left a sour taste in my mouth and I swore to never ever consider Nvidia in the future.
Amazon Robotics is growing. WLB depends on your team.

Go for Amazon
Similar thing happened to me with a different company. Luckily I had the foresight to not cancel my interview until the documents are signed and sent. IMO, take the Amazon offer as there are no guarantees for NVIDIA. It’s still a good opportunity.
Got it. What about the WLB aspect? Which is better Or is it team dependent?
I’ve never worked at Amazon or NVIDIA but WLB is almost always team dependant. I haven’t heard of either Amazon or NVIDIA overworking their interns. Pro Tip: when you’re doing a interview it should go both ways, ask them about their WLB.
