Maybe I'm sensitive to this kind of thing, bit in case anyone is oblivious to social norms in the US please be advised of this non-comprehensove things to avoid while eating around fellow humans: - Chewing with your mouth open - Speaking with food in your mouth - Licking your fingers, especially loudly - Making slurping sounds of any sort Generally, other people should not see or hear your saliva or food once it's entered your mouth. My kids have mastered this and so can you! For extra credit, your face should not come within 16 inches of your plate or bowl unless absolutely necessary.
Umm chill. If I’m eating rice or small bowls of soup I’m holding the bowl up to my face and using chopsticks.
Hell yeah...
OP, I don't like that crap either but I don't complain about it.... go sit and eat by yourself
Don't be gross and reject your animal origins.
We gave you Blind, and you gave us your long buried agony. How sweet!
I’m gonna microwave some shrimp at work tomorrow and eat it real loud and sloppy.
I have to agree. I think it's super strange how strong the reaction is on Blind every fucking time someone says this. I feel like a lot of parents weren't around, or work with children, only way you don't learn that as a kid.
Or maybe it's not considered socially awkward in some cultures
Ya definitely a culture and class thing. People will grow up never learning it’s wrong and then peers won’t give the feedback later in life.
Agreed. I have some colleagues that I refuse to have a lunch with because they slurp or chew loudly.
+1
This is good western social etiquette and manners...(obviously something that is called into question when telling a bunch of engineers and folks from multi cultural backgrounds). If people want to look like slobs then it’s their problem, but the PSA is appreciated. At least people know that this culture views that behavior as inappropriate, rest is up to them. An interesting point here, folks from lower class families East Asian cultures will argue food tastes better if you chew with your mouth open. Those from higher class families will say they got slapped if they did this as children. Viewpoints on etiquette are pretty wide. Even if you make your point, some folks will blatantly disagree.
Slurping is actually a requirement for ramen and soba noodles - definitely gross otherwise lol
That’s still only acceptable at those Asian noodle restaurants. But at your desk, around your coworkers, it’s a nasty habit. Take that bowl of noodles to the cafeteria. But the folks the OP is referring to, and the ones that eat in my cube cluster eat this way all the time. Chicken noodle soup...”sluuuuuueerrp..smack...smack”. Can we just agree eating at your desk is a designated quiet eating zone?
