Has anyone given Palantir decomp and learning interview before? What kind of questions are asked in both parts? #Palantir #tech #dev #interview
Had the interviews yesterday and I have HM round Monday now. Decomp — super easy sys design where I just implemented the logic of a few APIs, gave skeleton for Database, and noted data that needed to be collected from the front end. Learning — can’t prepare for this, but given some snippet of code and some library you’ve never seen before, be able to debug it.
Can you update after HM
Hey what to expect in phone screen?
I did interview for palantir 1 year ago. 1. Learning Interview - They asked me to implement a parallel downloader (download many files as fast as possible) (only client side). - The idea is that they introduce a new concept and expect you to learn it and use it within the interview. In this case they introduced futures and threads - which I knew before. 2. Open ended - they gave me a table of data and told me "how would you improve the lives of taxi drivers based on that data" Trash interviewers in both. Aced first one, did ok on the other - got rejected and the feedback was 1) the candidate clearly had exhaustive experience with the given topic, so it did not give us insight as to how he learns????? 2) the solution was not what we wanted (in an open ended question????) trash company, but hopefully this is useful to you.
Thanks!
No one grades the decomp interview based on the solution directly. For OP: things that are looked at: ability to find relevant constraints and complexity, how well you can communicate your ideas, your ability to make and articulate trade offs between different solutions, how linearly you can work through a solution (instead of needing to backtrack and update your solution because you missed some complexity), and how much hand holding you need to get to a solution
