This is people trying to become famous by writing such articles
Like you, trying to become rich at uber?
Haha :) I am leaving - (in 6 months)
Maybe that woman had been raped? I know one that has and the subject is particularly upsetting for her. Would you make jokes about slavery with a black person on your team? Or jokes about the holocaust to a jewish person? It's about respecting people and understanding context and being inclusive. Why would you ever want to alienate a teammate like that?
I would like to point out that while women are raped at a higher rate, rape doesn't only happen to women. So, probably keep rape jokes out if the office to be safe because it is a bit outside of most people's comfort zone. As an aside - I've been raped and I have a dark sense of humor - it likely would not have bothered me in the slightest. It really depends on the person and the context in which the joke was made.
Oh goodie, I'm glad the "men too!" contingent is here.
Read the gizmodo story. She's a nut.

Troll women should be punished severely to set an example.
Agreed. I personally know an ultra-feminist (as I call her) because she cries foul on the most innocent action or word, that for someone prone to thinking the worst of people all the time, happens often. There must be some leeway for humor and tolerance goes both ways (within reason).
The gizmodo story confirms mics account in more detail. Is the implication that it's ok to joke about rape if there's an internet meme with millions of people doing it?
Yes. Humor is always ok. It's life's medicine.
Except there's no joke about rape. It's a reference to someone who defended his sister from a potential rapist and warned the community about the dangers of sexual assault. Do you think that glorifies, makes light of, or encourages rape? Or does the mere fact that it references the existence of rapists make it something that should be censored?
The implication is that you can't quote a bad rap song at work.
Maybe she was raped?
Maybe. But that doesn't entitle her to special treatment. She was offended (but NOT ever the target of anything nor ever objectively or subjectively harmed). She made that clear. Her coworker apologized. End of story.
Rare occasion on Blind where the douchy sexist bro comments aren't coming from Uber!
Found this on ycombinator anon54321 21 hours ago [-] Absolute BS. She sent an email to the entire company about this "incident", which I'll include here (names redacted). > 8:53:41 AM Person1: so am I the only one who thinks of the Bed Intruder auto-tune song everytime Person2 warns us of undisclosed persons in the building? > 8:54:47 AM Person3: hide yo wife? > 8:54:57 AM Person1: and yo kids > 8:56:02 AM Person3: well, you're not any more > 8:56:13 AM Person1: #winning > 9:02:13 AM Person5: hilarious. Now the song is stuck in my head! > 9:08:08 AM Person4: -_- > 9:09:43 AM Person4: No > 9:11:10 AM Person4: Could do without having songs referencing sexual assault mentioned. > 9:12:04 AM Person1: fair enough > 9:13:39 AM Person4: Especially joking about it. -_- > 9:18:25 AM Person4: Does not exactly endear me to working during the day when the first thing I see is someone joking about rape in work chat. > 9:18:46 AM Person1: my appologies > 9:33:18 AM Person4: It's completely unacceptable, and creates a very toxic atmosphere. > 9:36:45 AM Person1: obviously that wasn't my intention. it won't happen again. > 9:37:24 AM Person4: Compounded by the fact I am the only woman in the [org], and I have several guys joking about it as well, in work chat. > 9:37:32 AM Person4: It would be unacceptable even if that weren't the case. And then claims to still not feel safe coming back to work after taking a month off due to PTSD from the above incident. There is undoubtedly sexism in the tech industry, and we should all strive towards eliminating it. This, however, is stirring up drama in response to a joke made in poor taste.
tangent observation: amazingly there are multiple employees logged in before 10am
She didn't email the entire company (I didn't get the email)

Do people underestimate E6 role at meta?
Exaggeration, I say. People can make jokes on murder, mugging, robbery, and kidnapping. But jokes on rape and suddenly your day is ruined and it's called sexist?
Wtf the likes? Jokes on murder, robbery, kidnapping are not fun and should not be tolerated.
Your complete disregard for serious issues as you've mentioned is completely alarming.
