Compensation is the biggest pro. Also, unlike other hire to fire companies (most tech companies at this point in 2024), you at least have a chance to prove yourself and are given a couple months to onboard. There are worse tech companies out there such as Amazon and Intuit, but Meta’s culture is still quite terrible. They try and justify the long hours and stress with how much you can make - Meta still pays more than any other major tech company, even in 2024, which is definitely a pro, but the culture is cutthroat and you can’t trust anyone. It would probably be easier to work two remote jobs at “less prestigious” tech or tech adjacent companies to make the same amount at Meta with more stability, better WLB, and less drama.
Pretty much the same as what one would experience at most tech companies in 2024. But some aspects are better or worse than others. Long hours. WLB is highly team dependent. Apparently Meta used to be a lot better in this regard, but now not so much. It is intense, but if you have startup experience, it is at least less intense than that. And again, it is more fair than a place like Amazon. Office politics are a thing at all tech companies, but a little more extreme at Meta. Blame and shame culture is big. People are snakes and are prepared to throw even the newest and most vulnerable employees under the bus to save their own skins. This makes things quite unfair, but as long as you’re proactive and document everything thoroughly, you’re at least given a chance to refute these attacks. A lot of gossip and backstabbing. This is separate from and still related to PSC culture, which everyone complains about. Management is terrible overall. Sometimes there is micromanagement. One of the few companies where it’s possible you’ll have a manager younger than you, even if you’re only 27-31ish. Often ICs seem to be held accountable for things that are way beyond their day-to-day scope - basically things that are ultimately the fault of leadership and management. Management frequently tries to pin things on their employees. Your manager is often trying to screw you, and if they can’t find a way, they are often trying to invent things you did wrong. This isn’t a dealbreaker because as long as you’re doing your job, it is easy to refute, but it creates a ton of work because you have to be extremely well-organized and have documented every interaction with your manager colleagues. I recommend studying employment law / consulting with an employment lawyer early on in your tenure at Meta, so you know what to look for. Because it is a massive tech company, you are there to please your manager and make them look good, so you need to do pretty much whatever they say. there’s a lot of internal conflict because it’s very authoritarian, also fairly draconian, and it’s bottoms up at the same time, every man for themselves. Do everything your manager says and it is somehow still all up to you as an individual employee to make the company successful. To top it all off, your colleagues suck too. People brag about work that YOU did as being THEIR work that THEY did if it is successful. If a project involving multiple people is so much as an hour late, then YOU are blamed, even if you had nothing to do with the lateness. The lateness itself isn’t really the problem because guess what? It’s not anything is broken. Except for when things do break and the whole app crashes for a day because everyone is forced to focus on office politics instead of their actual work. it’s not really about the value you create, so much as it is the PERCEIVED value you create and whether or not your manager likes you. Ergo, a lot of bootlicking charlatans make it to the top.
One year with the team and already getting terminated due to mostly meets performance even after working mostly 10 hrs a day. The organization bar is higher than the company bar so definitely a bad decision to join this team.I wasn’t on any official PIP , I didn’t do anything illegal either just too...Read more
Google is making me an offer, but I want at least one competing offer. Amazon loop is going well, though I’m only looping there for a potential counter-offer to Google. FRL today started asking these weird “Execution” and “Product Sense” questions, so they call them, which would as far as I can tell...Read more
At Meta, once identified for underperformance, typically how long does a PIP last before wrapped up to terminate (if no improvement?). #Meta
I was halfway through the process of interviewing with Facebook. Super positive feedback at each step with the next step scheduled. They asked me for more immigration documents, I provided, and suddenly they terminate the process. I know they would of had to sponsor a new H1b for me. I asked the rec...Read more
during interviews, i got lots of questions about how i previously terminated low performers. does facebook expect managers to frequently and aggressively remove low performers? seems like an important topic to warrant spending a substantial amout of time on it.

I have an upcoming interview for a Meta Leadership role. noticed a recurring theme on other posts that Meta interviewers have an obsessive interest in how a candidate goes about terminating low performers. There are lots of POVs on this. What is the meta gospel on this subject? (E.g. hire slow, fire...Read more
Amazon and Meta PIP people a lot. I wonder whether that’s aligning with performance review. Like we give everybody review then we find out who needs improvement and PIP them. Or it can be arbitrary? Like you receive good review recently but one day your skip manager decides you are not good enough ...Read more

https://youtu.be/oJcEDzgPRrc ☝️ First he got terminated from FB. Now this. What's the real deal here? Any FB folks can chime in? How was working with him like?
Companies are raising the % of people who will be PIP. Amazon, Meta, Google and of course others…. Managers pressured to choose people to terminate even though they’re happy with their team’s performance…dont forget your Blind fam is here to support and give referrals. Happy holidays!
Am I going to be terminated once I tell my manager I’m leaving to FB?
I have a friend on the verge of termination at FB. Offer doesn't say anything about what happens with relocation bonus if terminated before fully used. It seems that signing bonus should be returned since he would be terminated before the 1st year but generally they don't ask for it if they terminat...Read more
Is there seriously no way to deal with copyfraud? My account was terminated due to someone filing multiple false copyright claims against my account and photos of mine in Facebook marketplace. I owned these photos and anytime I responded to the copyright strikes with proof Facebook ignored it.
There could be a layoff coming from Meta but there isn't one now. There's just this one recruiter who was hired as a contractor and then her contract was terminated before it started. Meta was extremely generous paying her 6-weeks of pay when terminating her contract. If you know other contractors ...Read more
With the rise in H1b rejections, if my case gets rejected, if my case gets rejected after moving to FB, does FB terminate my employment? do they have the option of working from other countries??
As per rules of H1B, an employer terminating an employee need to pay reasonable costs to return to home country and incidentals. Does anyone know how much is Meta paying for that for the laid off workers? #layoff #meta
